Keep-in-touch list

Make a list of people you want to stay close to; each week it checks who you haven't talked to in a while, reminds you and writes an opening line.

Who it's for: People who get busy at work and go months without really talking to old friends or family.

What it does:

  • You give it a list: the people you want to stay in touch with, and how often (your parents every week, college roommates every month, for example).
  • Every Sunday it checks when you were last in touch with each person on the list by email or in Instagram and Facebook messages, and lists the ones it's been too long with.
  • For each, it writes a draft opening line, ideally picking up from what you last talked about.
  • It only looks at the people on the list, and it won't send anything for you.

Why this one: Muse's App Store description says it can link your email, Instagram and Facebook, and that it follows up with people. This one only has it remind you and write drafts; you send the messages.

Keep in mind: It can't see calls or time spent together in person, so tell it when you've been in touch, and it won't remind you again.

Help me stay in touch with the people who matter to me: I'll give you a list saying how often I want to be in touch with each person. Every Sunday evening, check when I was last in touch with each person on the list by email or in Instagram and Facebook messages, and list the ones it's been too long with; for each, write a draft opening line, ideally picking up from what we last talked about.
What to do: only read my emails and messages with the people on this list, and write the reminders and draft opening lines for me to see.
What not to do: do not read messages with anyone who isn't on the list, do not send a message to anyone for me, and do not like or comment on anything.
When to stop: stop when I say “stop the keep-in-touch reminders”.
